Dr. Denny H. KALYALYA
Dr. Denny H. KALYALYA is Deputy Governor – Operations at the Bank of Zambia since November 2002. Responsibilities of Deputy Governor – Operations include overseeing operations at the Regional Office and departments in the line functions of the Bank as well as serving as Registrar of Banks and Financial Institutions. The departments in question are Bank Supervision, Banking, Currency and Payment Systems, Economics, Financial Markets, Risk Management, and Non-bank Financial Institutions Supervision. Is Chairperson, Zambia Electronic Clearing House Limited (ZECHL), Chairperson, National Payments System Committee, Vice Chairperson, Financial Sector Development Plan Steering Committee, Chairperson, Financial Sector Development Plan Implementation Committee, Member, Agricultural Sector Development Project Steering Committee, and Member, Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines – Investment Holdings (ZCCM-IH) Board. Served as Director, Economics Department, Bank of Zambia (BoZ), 1998 - November 2002. As Director – Economics he served in a number important GRZ Task Forces, including those pertaining to negotiations on Zambia’s economic programme with the IMF/World Bank, Paris Club debt rescheduling, National Budget preparations, and KCM – Anglo American Pull out. Joined BoZ in 1996 as Advisor - Economics. During 1997/1998 seconded to the IMF as a Special Appointee, Monetary and Exchange Affairs and African departments. Served as economics lecturer (1983-1995), Assistant Dean (Post Graduate, 1994/5), School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Head, Economics Department (1995), University of Zambia (UNZA). Holds a Ph. D. (Economics), University of Massachusetts/Amherst, USA (UMASS, 1993), on a Fulbright Hays scholarship, MA (Economics), UMASS (1989) and UNZA (1983), and BA (Economics), UNZA (1980). Undertaken extensive research on socio-economic issues in Zambia. Published works include, Aid and Development in Southern Africa: Evaluating A Participatory Learning Process, Africa World Press: Trenton, New Jersey, 1988. Serves on various Government committees, including, IMF, World Bank, and Paris Club negotiations, Donors Consultative Group Meetings, and ESAF/PRGF monitoring committees. |
